SNL awards one Dissertation Award each year at the annual meeting. The recipient is selected from among nominations put forward by the membership.<\/p>\n<h2>Award Eligibility<\/h2>\n<p>To be eligible, an applicant must conduct research into the neurobiology of language and must defend their dissertation in the year between the past and upcoming SNL meetings (i.e., this year anyone who has defended or will defend their dissertation between July 1, 2020 and October 31, 2021 can apply).<\/p>\n<h2>Nominations<\/h2>\n<p>Nominations must be made by a current SNL member. They are reviewed by an Award Committee consisting of SNL members. Self-nominations are welcome. Members of the Award Committee and of the current SNL Board cannot serve as nominators.<\/p>\n<p>Nominations should include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A CV<\/li>\n<li>A short (1000 word) description of the nominee\u2019s research during their PhD<\/li>\n<li>Up to three significant publications<\/li>\n<li>One letter of recommendation either from the primary academic advisor or another academic familiar with their work should comment on the independence\/creativity of the student in their dissertation work and speak to the applicant&#8217;s research potential<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The recipient receives a prize of $1,000, generously provided by <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.journals.elsevier.com\/brain-and-language\">Brain and Language<\/a>,<\/em> and is invited to submit an article based on their Dissertation to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.journals.elsevier.com\/brain-and-language\"><em>Brain and Language<\/em><\/a>. Recipients will be selected from among nominations put forward by membership.\n<h3>Award Eligibility<\/h3>\nTo be eligible, an applicant must conduct research into the neurobiology of language, and have no more than 10 years of active research\/teaching experience following completion of their PhD (not counting career interruptions).\u00a0 If there was no break in active research\/teaching, for the upcoming 2019 award, the degree must have been awarded in or after 2009.\n<h3>Nominations<\/h3>\nNominations must be made by a current SNL member, and will be reviewed by an Award Committee consisting of SNL members. Self-nominations are welcome. Members of the Award Committee and of the current SNL Board cannot serve as nominators.\n\nThe Award Committee will announce the winners approximately one month following the nomination deadline. The prizes will be presented at the annual SNL meeting, and will include an honorarium of $1000 for each recipient, generously provided by Brain and Language.
