Preparing Your Presentation

This page contains requirements and instructions for preparing and uploading your SNL presentation. If you have questions about these instructions or have tips to share with your fellow presenters, please contact us at info@neurolang.org.

Poster Presentations

Poster presentations are a one-page PDF (20MB or less), optionally accompanied by a video tour of your poster. Poster PDFs are viewable and downloadable from your SNL Poster Presentation page.

If you are also preparing an optional poster video tour, see the Video Presentations section below. Poster video tours cannot exceed 5 minutes in length.

Creating Your PDF

Your Poster PDF can be any aspect ratio or resolution. Landscape orientation is recommended because we expect most attendees to be viewing presentations on a computer screen. Resolution should be high enough that all details are clearly visible. This allows attendees to zoom in on areas of your poster.

Most programs allow saving or printing to PDF format. The initial PDF created by many programs can be large. If you have Adobe Acrobat, you can reduce the file size by going to File > Save as Other > Reduce Size PDF. Free PDF converters and compressors can be found online (Example: https://www.freepdfconvert.com). Be aware that you may have to use a limited set of fonts if using an online PDF converter. The PDF file must be less than 20MB in size.

Uploading Your PDF

PDFs for Poster presentations must be uploaded to your SNL Account.

  1. Log in to your SNL Account.
  2. From your account home page, click “Upload Presentation”.
  3. From your Poster Presentation page, click “Upload PDF”.

PDFs must be uploaded to your SNL Account no later than October 9.

Poster PDFs must be uploaded to your SNL Account. See Using Screencast-O-Matic for instructions on uploading your poster PDF.

PDF Upload Deadline: Your completed poster PDF must be uploaded to your SNL Account no later than October 9, 2020.

Video Presentations

Slide and symposium presenters are required to upload a video presentation. Slide videos should not exceed 15 minutes. Symposium presenters should check with their symposium organizer for presentation length. Poster presenters can optionally upload a video poster tour, not to exceed 5 minutes in length.

Please Note: If your video exceeds the time limit, SNL may request that you upload a new video.

Creating Your Video

To assist you in preparing your video, SNL has purchased a Team license to Premier Screencast-O-Matic that gives presenters free access to Screencast-O-Matic for recording, uploading, and captioning your video. See Using Screencast-O-Matic for installation instructions.

All presenters will be emailed the password for accessing Team Screencast-O-Matic. If you can’t find your password, please contact us at info@neurloang.org.

Note: You are not required to use Screencast-O-Matic to create your video. However, you will need to use the Screencast-O-Matic captioning tool to add captions to your video prior to uploading your video to your SNL Account.

Be sure to leave yourself enough time to create, review, edit, and caption your video. Most presenters go through several iterations before reaching a final version. Finalize your video before you move on to captioning, as changes to the video after you caption it may result in starting over on captioning.

Video Size and Resolution

The resolution and aspect ratio of your video is up to you. Both 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios are acceptable. For most presentations a resolution with a frame width of 1280 is adequate. For higher resolution, you can use a frame width of 1920, which fills most computer screens. Resolutions above 1920 are not recommended because this may affect playback if the user does not have a fast internet connection.

Users will be able to change the size of the video window during playback, including full screen.

Adding Captions

SNL is committed to accessibility for our full membership, including deaf and hard of hearing members. For this reason, we require that all video presentations be captioned. For instructions on captioning your video, see Using Screencast-O-Matic.

Uploading Your Video

Poster Video Tours must be uploaded to your SNL Account. See Using Screencast-O-Matic for instructions.

Videos for symposia, slides, and award talks must be uploaded to the SNL 2020 Dropbox. If you are a speaker in a symposium, slide, or awards session, you will receive an email inviting you to upload your video to Dropbox. Hang on to this email, you will need it later when you’re ready to upload your completed video. If you can’t find your password, please contact us at info@neurloang.org.

Video Upload Deadline: Your completed and captioned video must be must be uploaded no later than October 16, 2020.
