Thanks for attending SNL 2022!

SNL 2022 was a success!

We were beyond delighted to host over 500 attendees and to be in person once again!

As you reunited with old friends and colleagues and met some of our newest language scientists from around the world, we hope you had time to attend some of the 16 symposia talks, 12 slide presentations, and 384 posters! It was a delight to hear from our keynote speakers: Drs. Ina Bornkessel-Schlesewsky, Kara Federmeier, and Asifa Majid whose outstanding talks represent some of the best research our field has to offer. We were also thrilled to hear from our 3 award winners: Dr. Cathy Price (Distinguished Career Award), Dr. Michael Skeide (Early Career Award) and Dr. Jin Wang (Dissertation Award)!

SNL 2022 once again featured poster slams before each poster session to highlight many of our early career members’ exciting research! We also continued our ‘sandbox’ poster series, which provides a venue for presenting and receiving feedback on science in progress. We were also privileged to have a representative from the National Science Foundation (NSF), Simon Fischer-Baum to inform us about funding opportunities.

This meeting could not take place without the work of so many individuals! First, thanks to our members for your support! In addition to reduced conference registration rates, your membership also provides reduced submission fees to our society’s flagship journal – Neurobiology of Language. Many thanks to our editors: Steve Small and Kate Watkins, as well as to Matt Davis, our publication office who serves as a liaison between the journal and our society. Please be sure to consider Neurobiology of Language as an outlet for your next exciting research project!

Special thanks to our student & postdoc representative, Dr. Suhail Matar, who organized the student social hour and lunch which provided a much-needed opportunity to connect with others. I hope you snagged one of the awesome SNL magnets! We are also grateful for the generous support of our many sponsors: the National Institutes of Health (Major Sponsor); Neurobiology of Language (The MIT Press – Gold Sponsor); Brain & Language (Elsevier – Awards Sponsor); Language, Cognition & Neuroscience (Routledge – Awards Sponsor); Rogue Research Inc. (Silver Sponsor); ANT Neuro (Bronze Sponsor); Brain Vision LLC (Bronze Sponsor). We appreciate your continued support!

Thanks to the Program Committee for all their work planning this year’s stellar scientific program: Ingrid Johnsrude, Suhail Matar, Carolyn McGettigan, Liina Pylkkänen, Sharon Thompson-Schill, Stephen Wilson, and Patrick Wong. Organizing a meeting of this size is truly a team effort and so much more fun to do so collaboratively! A huge round of applause for Shauney Wilson, Jeff Wilson, Shawna Lampkin, and Lily Carrick at Meeting Perfect for their tireless efforts organizing our first in-person conference in 3 years!! Finally, thanks to you for your attendance and support of SNL through your membership, abstract reviews, Neurobiology of Language journal submissions, and active participation at the conference. It could not have been a success without you!!

We wish everyone good health and continued success in your research. We look forward to seeing you at SNL 2023 in Marseille!

Michele Diaz, Chair of the Program Committee, and the SNL Board of Directors
